Jannes Slomp (1958) is Full Professor World Class Performance at the HAN University of Applied Sciences. Until September 2012, he was Professor of Operations Management at the Faculty of Economy and Business at the University of Groningen. Having completed the study of Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic High School (1975-1979), he went to the University of Twente to study Mechanical Engineering at an academic level. After obtaining his MSc, he performed a PhD study in the area of Flexible Manufacturing Systems. In 1987, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. In 1991, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen. In 1996, he became Associate Professor. He was educational director of the study Technology Management and founder and director of the Lean Operations Research Centre (LO-RC) of the University of Groningen. In 2007, Jannes Slomp became Professor of Operations Management at the University of Groningen. In 2012, he was appointed as Full Professor World Class Performance at the HAN University of Applied Sciences.
Jannes Slomp has substantial teaching experience. He has also designed several educational programs for students as well as for industry. He has been involved in many industrial projects. He has a large network both in industry and in the academic world. He wrote and co-authored 42 papers in academic journals, more than 40 papers for scientific conferences, and 11 chapters in scientific books. In addition, he wrote several papers in professional journals. He has been and still is involved in several PhD-projects as a promotor or co promotor.
In his current position as Full Professor World Class Performance, he is responsible for setting up research projects and linking scientific research with industrial interests. His research group consists of about 14 FTE scientific workers.
